We help families to adopt in Ghana

To be eligible to adopt, the prospective adoptive parents must be at least twenty-five (25) years of age and at least twenty-one (21) years older than the child at the time of application. An application for adoption may be made jointly by a husband and wife. An application may also be made by a single person but only if that person is female. A male who is single may only adopt their own biological child or also in situations where the court determines is a special circumstance.

Anyone under the age of 18 may be adopted. However some countries like the USA require that for a child to be adopted and brought into their jurisdiction, that child must be younger than 16 years.

The process for adopting a child can be summarized as follows:

  1. If intercountry adoption, satisfy your country’s eligibility criteria.
  2. Apply to the Central Adoption Agency to be found eligible to adopt.
  3. Be matched to be placed with a child.
  4. Arrive in Ghana to complete all the necessary procedure to adopt the child if intercountry adoption.
  5. Finalise the adoption.
  6. If intercountry adoption, apply for a visa to take your child home.

Adopting in Ghana could take approximately 9 months to a year to complete.
